We stop along the way for great photo opportunities because you will be able to look down into the Snowmass Creek Valley, The ride is about one to two hours and soon you will break out into the unmatchable beauty of snake Basin. Here we have one of our base camps at the foot of Mt. Daly and Clark’s Peak. This beautiful high altitude basin is the perfect place to have lunch, relax, and take photos of this spectacular area. 12:30pm returning 2:00pm the following day
From the trailhead, you follow Snowmass Creek upstream, cross the creek and head up West Snowmass Creek. Our camp is located at the base of Clarks Peak and Mt Daly. This may be one of the most beautiful places you will ever camp. After arriving at the camp you will have an hour or two to relax, wash up, or play a game of horseshoes before dinner is served. Then sit around the campfire and listen to the stories and night sounds. In the morning, after a good hardy breakfast, the more motivated may want to take the two-hour hike to Moon Lake, a place of unsurpassed beauty. Moon Lake sits in a bowl surrounded by spectacular snow capped peaks. This is a wonderful place to pull out the camera and snap photos of unforgettable scenery. We suggest that if you are interested in hiking to Moon Lake that you consider staying an additional night in the high country. This way you will not have to rush the hike in order to make it all the way back to the trail head on the same day. If you do chose to stay two nights, you will get the full experience of Moon Lake, have the time to hike around it, fish, take photos and absorb the untouched beauty. The decent back to the trailhead will start after lunch and have you back home in time for dinner.
OVERNIGHT WILLOW LAKE
$800 Per Person/Day (2 Days / 1 Night Minimum)
Private $2400 Per Person/Day (2 Days / 1 Night Minimum)
The Willow Creek area is limited by the Forest Service to a minimum of horseback trips into this pristine valley. Therefore, all camping takes place in sites that are not permanent, and must be taken down when we leave. Because this makes these trips more technical, we recommend a minimum of two nights. This trip winds up East Snowmass Creek area and eventually ends at Willow Lake. From there we have many different options available to you depending on the length of your trip.
