In its fourth year, Snowmass' Chili Pepper & Brew Fest once again set a record, with about 7,000 people attending the three-day festival last weekend.
Saturday, capped off by a performance by Ziggy Marley, was the busiest day of the festival, with about 5,000 attendees, according to estimates by the town's marketing department. That's equal to the total number of people who attended last year. Friday drew 1,800 people and about 400 came to the locals' competition on Sunday.
For two hours in the afternoon -- when rain, sleet and lightning effectively shut the party down -- airport officials let the public enjoy the repaved and silky smooth runaway on "any non-motorized vehicles," as one airport official greeting visitors put it.

To celebrate the on-time completion of the runway resurfacing project, Pitkin County has scheduled an open house at the airport one week from today on Wednesday, June 6th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Along with this comes a unique opportunity for the public to cruise the smooth new runway pavement that afternoon on anything that rolls without a motor! Bicycles, skateboards, roller blades, scooters, and wheelchairs will all be welcome. Based on word I am already hearing across town, we are expecting quite a turnout! Attached here is a flyer from Pitkin County with all the details.
The Colorado Department of Transportation will reopen Independence Pass on SH 82 for the season on Thursday, May 24, just in time for Memorial Day holiday travel. The 12,095-foot pass is closed each winter, due to harsh winter weather conditions, for the safety of the traveling public. Maintenance crews plan to open the pass at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, weather permitting; but motorists should be advised that any spring snowstorms could slow traffic at times.
