The time between Aspen Snowmass’ final closing day celebrations and the beginning of June is what locals like to refer to as the ‘secret season.’ There is no shortage of fun to be had and deals to be scored during the secret season and here is how to make the most of it.
Score Deals and Discounts
Get amazing deals and discounts on gear, dining, and lodging
throughout Aspen and Snowmass.
Many ski shops use the spring to open up rack space by selling off last season’s gear at ridiculously steep discounts. Look for signs in windows and ads in the newspaper to guide your bargain hunting.
Almost every local restaurant open throughout Aspen and Snowmass during the spring offers some sort of great special or deal for locals and visitors. Call ahead to confirm seasonal hours and see what specials they have.
Once skiers and snowboarders leave for the season, the area’s many luxury hotels fill rooms by offering incredible discounts on them. Find a great room at a fraction of its winter price and stay a couple extra days with all the savings.
Enjoy ‘Bonus Season’ Fishing
Local anglers call spring ‘bonus season’ thanks to the amazing fly fishing on the Roaring Fork and Frying Pan rivers. Take advantage of the gorgeous spring days before temps rise and fishing conditions deteriorate due to spring runoff.
Celebrate Cinco De Mayo
The entire Aspen Snowmass community celebrates Mexican-American culture during Cinco De Mayo. Partake in the celebration at one of the many Mexican restaurants throughout Aspen and Snowmass, catch a Cinco De Mayo show at the Belly Up and check the local newspaper to see what other local businesses and organizations are celebrating in style.
Get Out in the Backcountry
Spring is the time of year for backcountry skiing and snowboarding around Aspen and Snowmass. Lifts aren’t running and the best way to ascend local mountains is using your own two legs. Locals love spring because avalanche conditions are typically more stable and the great weather makes for unforgettably gorgeous days beyond ski area boundaries. With all that being said, it’s still important to check avalanche conditions and make sure you are properly prepared and outfitted for a backcountry skiing or snowboarding adventure.
Ride the Pass
Break out your bike and test your endurance during Ride The Pass. This annual recreational ride and road bike race give cyclists the opportunity to ride the stretch of Highway 82 between Aspen and the top of Independence Pass before it opens to motor traffic for the summer season.
Catch a Free Show at Belly Up Aspen
Belly Up Aspen
supplies the community of Aspen with FREE concerts and movie screenings throughout the spring. From mid-April until the beginning of June there are over a dozen opportunities to catch free shows.
Celebrate Earth Day at ACES
Join the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies at their Hallam lake headquarters to celebrate Earth Day. Enjoy sustainable cocktails, locally sourced food, live music and Earth Day themed activities.
Find Other Secret Season Gems
