Deep in the Woods

Day 2: World Golf Amateur Championship Tournament

Here is Bill's second day entry:

September events in Aspen / Snowmass

As the cool weather approaches, so does the fall season in Aspen / Snowmass. While the leaves are changing to an unbelievable array of gold, yellow and orange, Aspen / Snowmass locals and vacationers are enjoying a variety of activities and events. Aspen and Snowmass begin the fall season with the annual Motherlode Volleyball tournament, but do not get discouraged if you are not a volleyball player because it is just as fun to watch the volleyball match as it is to participate in the competitive event.

A take on the World Amateur Golf Championship in North Carolina By Bill Tomcich

Stay Aspen Snowmass President, Bill Tomcich embarks on his first World Amateur Golf Championship.

August 30, 2005

Greetings from steamy & tropical Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. For those who are curious how things are going thus far, as well as those who may not realize I have decided to compete in the world's largest amateur golf tournament along with 3,752 other golf nuts from all 50 states plus 23 foreign country's, here's a brief update...

Disc Golf in Aspen

If you enjoy a casual hike, beautiful views of the mountains, and throwing a frisbee, then the Disc Golf course on the top of Aspen Mountain is for you!

Among a variety of activities for people of all ages, Disc Golf is one of my favorites. Hailed as the highest disc golf course in the world (elevation 11,212 feet), this activity is both free and fun. After a 15 minute gondola ride ($18 for adults), you can borrow some discs and even pick up a free map.

Spa, Fitness, and the Royal Treatment in Aspen

There is a certainty that when you travel to Aspen & Snowmass Colorado you are really getting away from it all. This experience can be further enhanced by a variety of activites in the area. One can seek out extreme adventure, rich culture, and even a healthy dose of relaxation.

Aspen Golf Course experience

I kicked off this past weekend by teeing off at altitude at the Aspen Golf and Tennis Club. At over 7,000 feet, your ball really flies farther because of the thinner air composition. Lately, we have had a heat wave, but I was more comfortable than expected in the 80+ degree, sunny and dry weather. The slight breeze was also a nice touch. It is always great to have a relaxed partner (Andrea)to share in a laugh with the well-known follies of amateaur golfing.

Summer rolls on in Aspen / Snowmass

The summer in Aspen / Snowmass got off to a great start this year with an early and very successful, though a bit drizzly, Food & Wine Magazine Classic in Aspen. The Aspen Music Festival and School kicked off shortly after that, followed by the Jazz Aspen / Snowmass June Festival in downtown Aspen.

Snowmass Base Village Updates

A good question was raised about what we can expect for this November in terms of lifts, etc. for Base Village.

  • The cabriolet lift (base village to Mall on Fanny Hill) will be complete.
  • The New Sam's Knob Express from Fanny Hill to Sam's Knob will be complete.
  • Burlingame chair has been shortened to accommodate foot passengers and beginners to the Spider Sabich area.
  • The Woodrun Chairlift has been removed.
